Personal, Banking & Vehicle Power of Attorney in Dubai: What You Need to Know

Not every Power of Attorney in the UAE is the same. If you need someone to manage your bank account, register a vehicle on your behalf, or handle a specific personal matter while you’re abroad, you don’t need a broad, all-purpose POA, you need a Personal Power of Attorney tailored to that exact task.

This guide covers three of the most common personal POA types in Dubai: Personal POA, Banking POA, and Vehicle POA, what each one covers, and how to get one drafted, translated, and notarised correctly.

What Is a Personal Power of Attorney?

A Personal Power of Attorney authorises a trusted individual to act on your behalf for personal matters, such as managing a bank account, handling telecommunications accounts, or registering a vehicle, without you needing to be physically present in the UAE.

Unlike a General POA, which grants broad authority, personal POAs are usually scoped to a specific category of task, which makes them faster to draft and easier for UAE authorities to process.

Bank Account POA

A Bank Account POA authorises a representative to open, manage, or close a bank account, make deposits or withdrawals, and handle day-to-day banking on your behalf. This is common for expats who need a family member or business partner to manage finances while they are overseas.

Banking & Investment POA

A broader Banking & Investment POA covers not just account management but also investment decisions, fund transfers, and financial instrument handling. Banks in the UAE typically require this to be notarised and, where the principal signed abroad, attested through the full MOFA chain before it is accepted.

Vehicle POA

A Vehicle POA authorises another person to register, transfer, sell, or otherwise manage a vehicle registered in your name. This is frequently used when an owner is travelling or relocating and needs someone else to complete an RTA transaction on their behalf.

Telecommunication POA

A Telecommunication POA lets a representative manage accounts with providers such as Etisalat or du, useful for closing accounts, transferring lines, or resolving billing matters when the account holder cannot attend in person.

Getting It Drafted, Translated & Notarised

Every personal POA in the UAE needs to be bilingual (English ↔ Arabic), drafted with the exact wording the receiving authority or bank expects, and notarised either online through e-Notary or in person at Dubai Courts or ADJD. Our Power of Attorney Services in Dubai team handles the drafting, certified Arabic translation, and notarisation as one service.

Which Personal POA Do You Need?

A quick way to decide:

  • Need someone to manage your bank account while you’re away? Bank Account POA.
  • Need broader financial and investment authority? Banking & Investment POA.
  • Need to register, sell, or transfer a vehicle? Vehicle POA.
  • Need to close or manage a telecom account? Telecommunication POA.

If your situation touches more than one of these, our team can combine authorities into a single document where the receiving authority allows it.

Documents You'll Need

  • Passport copy of the principal (person granting the POA)
  • Emirates ID (if UAE resident)
  • Bank account details or vehicle registration card, depending on the POA type
  • Passport copy of the appointed representative

Signing Options

You can sign your Personal POA in two ways:

  • Online (e-Notarisation): A short video call with the Notary Public, ideal if you’re based outside the UAE and can’t travel in. The notarised POA is delivered by email with a QR-verifiable code.
  • In person: At Dubai Courts or the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. We handle the booking and submission.

Why Getting the Wording Right Matters

Banks and government departments in the UAE reject POAs that don’t specify the exact scope of authority. A generic template downloaded online often gets refused. Our legal drafters prepare the wording UAE banks and authorities expect, so your document is accepted the first time.
