Foreign Degree for a UAE Job: Attestation and Ministry of Education Recognition
A foreign degree used for a UAE job is normally attested in the country that issued it, then by the UAE embassy or consulate there, then by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Separately, the Ministry of Education runs a recognition system for degrees from foreign institutions. Which one you need depends on your profession and employer.

Foreign Degree for a UAE Job: Attestation and Recognition
UAE government guidance says certain jobs require expatriates to present attested academic certificates to complete residency and employment procedures. Since 2023 the Ministry of Education has also operated a recognition system for foreign degrees. They are two different things, and confusing them is a common reason for delays.
Last reviewed: 25 October 2026. Requirements change, so we verify them with the relevant authority before you submit anything.
Attestation Chain
The original is attested by the foreign ministry in the issuing country, then by the UAE embassy or consulate there, then by MOFA in the UAE.
Ministry of Education Recognition
The University Certificates Recognition system replaced the earlier equivalency system for degrees from foreign higher-education institutions.
Regulated Professions
Certificates for specialised professions such as engineering, medicine and law are treated differently from other programmes under the recognition system.
Arabic Translation
A certified Arabic translation is added where an authority asks for one, after the verification step.

Which Do You Need?
The right route depends on your employer, your profession and the regulator involved. According to the Ministry of Education’s announcement in June 2023, the recognition system applies to certificates issued by foreign higher-education institutions, and its requirements depend on the institution’s category. Ask your employer or regulator which they require, or send us your degree and we will confirm before you start.

The Steps in Order
- Check with your employer or regulator what is required
- Attest the degree in the issuing country, then at the UAE embassy or consulate there
- Complete MOFA attestation in the UAE
- Add a certified Arabic translation if requested
- Apply for Ministry of Education recognition if your profession or employer needs it
See our degree certificate attestation service and translating educational certificates for MOFA attestation.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Translating the degree before it is verified
- Names that differ between the degree, transcript and passport
- Skipping the transcript
- Assuming one route covers every employer or regulator
- Starting too late for a job or visa deadline

Does a foreign degree need attestation for a UAE job?
Certain jobs require expatriates to present attested academic certificates. Degrees issued outside the UAE normally need attestation before UAE authorities accept them. Your employer or regulator confirms what it needs.
Is Ministry of Education recognition the same as MOFA attestation?
No. Attestation confirms the stamps and signatures on the document. Since 2023 the Ministry of Education has run a University Certificates Recognition system for foreign degrees, which is a separate process.
Which degrees are treated differently?
The Ministry’s announcement says certificates for specialised professions such as engineering, medicine and law are outside the standard system and are treated differently.
Do I need an Arabic translation of my degree?
Only if the authority or employer asks for one. When it does, it is added after the verification step and before MOFA attestation.
How do I get a quote?
Send your degree details and the country that issued it by WhatsApp or the contact page and we reply with a written quote.
