MOFA POA Attestation Checklist: Documents, Fees & Processing Time
This checklist walks through what to have ready, when a certified translation comes into play, the fee components that make up the total cost, and what affects how quickly the attestation moves.
Documents You’ll Need Before You Start
At minimum, expect to provide the original notarized Power of Attorney — a copy generally won’t be accepted at this stage — along with a passport and Emirates ID copy for the person granting authority (the principal) and, where relevant, the person receiving it (the agent).
If the POA originated outside the UAE and is coming in for use here, you’ll also need whatever attestation it already picked up in the home country: typically that country’s own Ministry of Foreign Affairs stamp and UAE embassy legalization abroad, before UAE MOFA will attest it on this end.
For a corporate or business Power of Attorney, add the company’s trade license and the board resolution authorizing the POA. Keep all originals in good condition — a document that’s damaged, altered, or laminated is commonly rejected outright.
When You’ll Also Need a Certified Translation
If the Power of Attorney isn’t already in Arabic, MOFA will typically require a certified Arabic legal translation before it will attest the document — an informal or uncertified translation won’t be accepted. The translation needs to come from a UAE Ministry of Justice-licensed legal translator, since MOFA checks for that licensing specifically.
If your POA is going on to a third country afterward rather than being used inside the UAE, that destination country’s embassy may have its own translation-language preference as well — it’s worth checking before you commission a translation, so you’re not paying for one that needs to be redone.
Fee Components to Budget For
MOFA doesn’t publish one single fee that covers every Power of Attorney — the total you’ll pay depends on factors like whether the document is classified as a personal/individual-affairs matter or a commercial one, whether a translation is required, and which submission channel you use.
In practice, the total cost is usually made up of a few separate pieces: the government attestation fee itself, a typing-centre or agent service fee if you’re not submitting the request yourself, translation charges if one is needed, and courier or delivery fees if you’re not submitting and collecting fully digitally. Because the breakdown varies by document and channel, the most reliable way to get an accurate number is to check the current fee on MOFA’s own portal or ask an agent for a quote based on your specific document.
Processing Time and How to Expedite
As with MOFA attestation generally, there’s no single fixed turnaround published specifically for Power of Attorney documents. Digital submissions through the MOFA app or UAE PASS tend to move faster than courier-based ones, and an express courier option — where available — cuts delivery time compared to standard delivery.
The most effective way to avoid delays isn’t really about the channel you pick — it’s making sure your document set is complete and correct before you submit: the right translation, any prior attestation already in place, and no missing signatures or ID copies. A single missing piece can cost you more time than any courier option saves.

How to Get Started
What documents do I need to start MOFA attestation for a Power of Attorney?
You’ll generally need the original notarized POA, ID copies for the people involved, and — for a corporate POA — the company’s trade license and board resolution. If the document started out abroad, you’ll also need whatever foreign attestation it already has.
Is there a fixed MOFA attestation fee for a Power of Attorney?
No single fee covers every case. The total depends on whether the document is classified as personal or commercial, whether translation is required, and which submission channel you use, so it’s best to confirm the current fee for your specific document.
Do all Powers of Attorney need translation before MOFA attestation?
Only if the document isn’t already in Arabic. In that case, it needs a certified legal translation from a UAE Ministry of Justice-licensed translator before MOFA will attest it.
How can I speed up MOFA attestation for a Power of Attorney?
Submitting digitally where eligible, using an express courier option if you need physical delivery, and making sure your full document set — translations and prior attestations included — is complete before you submit are the most effective ways to avoid delays.
