Who Needs Degree Attestation in Dubai?

Degree attestation is most often needed by:

Job Seekers and Employees

People starting a job in the UAE where the employer or a government authority asks for attested qualifications.

Residency and Licence Applicants

Applicants whose residency or professional licence file asks for proof of qualifications.

Students and Graduates

Graduates moving abroad for study or work who need UAE degrees accepted overseas.

Regulated Professions

How Degree Attestation Works

For a degree issued outside the UAE, UAE government guidance says the original should be attested by the foreign ministry in the issuing country, then by the UAE embassy or consulate in that country. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs completes the chain inside the UAE. Some professions also require Ministry of Education attestation for UAE-issued certificates. See the UAE government guidance on preparing to work.

Foreign Degrees and Ministry of Education Recognition

In 2023 the Ministry of Education introduced a University Certificates Recognition system for degrees from foreign higher-education institutions, replacing the earlier equivalency system. It covers most programmes, but certificates for specialised professions such as engineering, medicine and law are treated differently. We can confirm which route applies to your certificate.

Translation and the Order of Steps

A certified Arabic translation is normally added after the verification step and before MOFA attestation. Getting the order wrong is a common reason files are returned. Read our guide to translating educational certificates for MOFA attestation. Requirements change, so we verify them with the relevant authority before you submit anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Certain jobs and procedures require expatriates to present attested academic certificates, and degrees issued outside the UAE normally need attestation before UAE authorities accept them. Your employer or the requesting authority confirms what it needs, and we check it with them if you wish.

Normally the foreign ministry in the issuing country attests the document first, then the UAE embassy or consulate in that country, then MOFA in the UAE. A certified Arabic translation is added where an authority asks for one.

Usually yes. A UAE degree is typically authenticated by the Ministry of Education or the university where required, attested by MOFA, and then legalised by the embassy of the destination country in the UAE. Some countries accept other routes, so we confirm the destination’s rules first. See MOFA attestation vs apostille.

No. It applies to certain professions and certificates. Foreign degrees may instead go through the Ministry of Education’s recognition system, which has its own categories. Tell us your profession and employer and we will confirm.

Only if the authority or employer asks for one. When it does, the translation is done by a Ministry of Justice-approved translator, after the verification step and before MOFA attestation.

Send us the document and the stamps it carries. Whether an older attestation is accepted depends on the authority asking for it, so we check with them before you pay for repeat steps.

Timing depends on the issuing country and each authority. For reference, MOFA states that digital attestation inside the UAE takes up to 2 hours during working hours, the courier route 1 to 3 business days, and documents attested through UAE missions abroad up to 7 business days. We give you a timeline with your quote.

The cost depends on the issuing country, the number of documents, the steps required and how urgent it is. We send a written quote before we start.
